How to use
Options
When you first
run Movie Downloader, you will see Options window. You can
also open this window by clicking File on Main Menu and
selecting Options.
1.In the Program data directory field you
should determine the target directory where Movie Downloader
will place downloaded files and support data. In this
directory the program will also create a separate folder for
each profile. All files found using definite profile will be
downloaded to the corresponding folder.
2. User agent. This field allow you to
enter text, how program will introduce itself to the web
server.
3. Program will start automatically at
startup, if you check "Run Movie Downloader at startup"
4. If you check "Run in scheduled mode",
program will run scheduled and minimize to the tray icon.
5. You can set the maximum download
speed. Enter necessary limit in kilobytes to the "Download
speed limit" field. Zero value means that no limit set.
6. Check "Allow to collect anonymous
statistic" to help Movie Downloader team improve its search
capabilities.
7. "Mute mode". Media will play with no
sound if you check this option.
8. If you want to play downloaded media
immediately turn "Play media after download" on.
9. Enter your e-mail to the "E-mail" field, if you
register user and want use
Search Net
capability.
10. Press Save to save the changes made to Options.
Getting started
1. To make your Movie Downloader start working you need to:
- Select a profile from the Profile drop-down list.
When you start the search, Movie Downloader will look
only for the files defined in this profile. Every
profile contains file extensions, minimum and maximum
file sizes and site constraints you want to use. There
are several profiles in Movie Downloader. Besides, you
can create your own or edit already existing.

- Enter the address (URL) of a website to the Address
field. From this place Movie Downloader will start
looking for movies, pictures, etc. Be sure the address
you type is correct. If it's not, the program will not
retrieve any files. To make sure the address you have
entered is valid press the View button, you will be able
to view the page using your browser.
- Press the Search button to start the search. You can
watch the process on Status Bar, located along the
bottom of Movie Downloader window. When the search is
over, you will see a message "Search Complete" there.
Now you have the list of all found on this website files
that suit to your profile. For every file you can see
its name, size and downloading percent.
2. Press "Download" button to download selected files. When
downloading a file, you can watch the process on Status bar
or at its downloading percent in the file list. If the file
is rather big and for some reason downloading process was
interrupted, you can continue its downloading anytime you
run the program again.
3. Press
"Download all" button to download all files from the list.
4. Press
"Pending downloads" button to view the list of pending
downloads.
5. Press "Scheduler" button to turn
scheduler on/off.
6.Press "Open folder" to open directory where downloaded files
placed to.
7.You can immediately view the downloaded files in the
Preview window, located right to the file list. At the top
of this window there is information about the selected file:
its size, duration and current time of viewing.
- Press "Play" button to view the selected file or click this
file in the list.
- Press "Stop" button to stop the playing.
- Press "Mute" button to watch movie without sound.
8.When the search or download process is in progress, you
can minimize Movie Downloader window. It will appear as a
tray icon on the Taskbar -
When the process is over, this tray icon is going to blink.
How to create a profile
Movie Downloader allows you to create your own profile or
edit an existing one. Select Profile on Main Menu. You will
see the Profile window:
1. Input profile's name to the Profile field if you are
making your own or choose a name from the drop-down list, if
you want to edit one of already existing profiles.
2. You need to enter extensions of the files you are
interested in to the "Media to search" field. The extensions
must be separated with "," (comma).
3. In the Size limits you can limit size of files. Input
the certain number of kilobytes to the Min and Max fields.
Movie Downloader will ignore all files that are smaller than
the minimum size and bigger than maximum. For example, you
want Movie Downloader to look for pictures, usually almost a
half of found files are just thumbnails, i.e. smaller
versions of corresponding images. As a rule, you do not need
such small images. In this case it will be very useful for
you to define file sizes.
4. Input a number to the Depth field that is the level
you want Movie Downloader to go deep when looking through
the site.
5. Select the site constraints to minimize the search
time.
5.1 "Search links below". For example you want to
download all pictures from the such location only:
"http://www.yoursite.com/gallery/", but this page contains
links to the other parts of the site. So, if you set this
option, Movie Downloader will ignore all links, that is not
beginning with "http://www.yoursite.com/gallery/".
5.2 "Search in current domain". If you use this option,
program will search only links contains "www.yoursite.com",
and ignore all other. For example, "pics.yoursite.com" or
just "yoursite.com" will be omitted.
5.3 "Search in subdomains". In this case, program will
search in all subdomains of current domain. For example,
"pics.yoursite.com", "yoursite.com",
"www.video.yoursite.com" will be used in search. But site
"othersite.com" or "yoursite.net" will be ignored.
5.4 "Search everywhere". Program will look for the
content in all links.
6. Program look for the string you enter to the "Link
contains" in the URLs. Program use link only in case if the
link contains this string. For example, it may be useful if
you want search in "yoursite.com", "yoursite.net" and
"videoyoursite.com" domains. So, you should set "Search
everywhere" option and enter "yoursite" to the "Link
contains" field.
6.When you have made a profile, click Save to save
changes. Click Delete if you want to delete the chosen
profile.
How to use scheduler
Movie Downloader can work in scheduled mode. This mode is
useful in case if you search for site updates. For example
daily updated pictures or movies. Program allows to create
different tasks for scheduling. Select Scheduler on Main
Menu. You will see the Scheduler window:
1. Input link, the start point of the search to the
"Address" field.
2. Check the "Enable" checkbox, if you want this task to
be active.
3. Select the search profile you want to use while
search.
4. Enter the period of time between task executions. You
can specify period of time or concrete time of task
execution.
5. Press "Save" button to save the task.
Press (turn scheduler on) button to turn Movie
Downloader to the scheduled mode.
Search Net capability
Movie Downloader allows you to search media you need
using keywords. Just enter your keywords to the Search filed
and choose appropriate profile. Program sends your request
to server. Server search for media and return the list of
appropriate links.
If file marked "Ready to download" you can download
this file immediately. Press Download button to download
file. If file marked "File found in net" press
Download button to prepare this file to download. File will
be put to the Pending Downloads list.
Press "Pending downloads" to view status of your
pending downloads. You can begin to download the file if it
marked "Ready to download".
We know, that you can find files which breach the
copyrights. If you think, that file breaches the copyrights,
don't download it. You also can forbid this file for other
users. Just press right mouse button on file list and choose
"Forbid file" command to forbid the file. No registration
required.
